Air Ticket Concession For Disabled Handicapped Persons
People with locomotor
disability, blind people, war disabled officers and persons on stretcher can
get discount on air fare. Learn how to get this concession.
The state owned carrier
Air India provides concessionary air tickets to the disabled people in the
following categories:
· Locomotor disability
· Blind people
· War disabled officers
· Invalid passengers
Concessionary Air Tickets
for People with Locomotor Disability
This scheme provides
cheaper air fare to those who have mobility related issues. You can avail this
facility if you’re an Indian citizen and have 80% or above locomotor disability
including the cases of- Paraplegia, Hemplegia, Cerebral Palsy, severe cases of
Poliomyelitis, Kyphosis, Muscular Dystrophy and Amputation.
You will get 50% discount
on the basic fare in Economy class. Remember that you will not get any rebate
on taxes and other charges. Only the basic fare is subsidized in this case.
You can buy such a
concessionary air ticket as much as one year in advance. The destination can be
anywhere in India. You would need to purchase air ticket at least 7 days before
departure to avail the concession.
How to get Concessionary
Air Ticket for People with Locomotor Disability?
To prove your disability
condition you will need a disability certificate issued by Chief District
Medical Officer or a board constituted by a government hospital.
In case you have Unique
Disability ID card, you can also use this card as a document to prove your
disabling condition.
If children are
accompanying you, they will not receive any concession. However, a concession
of Rs. 1000 is available for the ticket of one accompanying infant (a child
under 2 years of age).
As I said, you will have
to book the ticket at least 7 days before the travel date. The tickets are
valid for one year from the date of issue. You are allowed to cancel or change
your ticket. The concessionary tickets are refundable. Various fees may be
applied in case of cancellation / change / refund of tickets.
You must carry a photo ID
document to verify your ID at the time of check-in and boarding. If you do not
present a valid ID proof at these times, you will be denied boarding.
Concessionary Air Tickets
for Blind People
If a person has 100% visual impairment
and she is a resident of India — she will get 50% discount while booking
tickets on Air India flights. The destination can be anywhere in India and also
the India-Nepal routes. Such tickets will that be of Economy class.
If children are accompanying you, they
will not receive this concession. However, a concession of Rs. 1000 is
available for the ticket of one accompanying infant.
Ticket needs to be booked at least 7
days before departure. Tickets can be canceled, changed or refunded, if you so
desire.
Concessionary Air Tickets
for War Disabled Officers
Armed forces officers who became
disabled during war time are also allowed concession in air fare. Not only
officers but their family members (i.e. spouse, dependent children between 02
and 26 years of age and dependent parents) are also given the concessionary air
fare.
To avail this concession, the officer
would need to produce the official ID card issued to the serving personnel and
dependent card issued to the family members.
Under this scheme 50% discount is given
on the basic air fare. The ticket needs to be booked at least 7 days in advance
and it will be valid for up to one year from the date of issue. The
concessionary ticket(s) can be canceled, changed or refunded.
Concessionary Air Tickets
for Stretcher Users
Air India provides a discount of up to
4 times the basic fare for a passenger who is on stretcher. Such a passenger
must be accompanied by at least one able bodied person who can take care of the
person on stretcher.
Persons who are suffering from
contagious diseases or whose behavior might be hazardous to other passengers or
the aircraft, will not be allowed boarding.
You will need to submit the performa
for Stretcher Passenger. This document would need to be duly filled and signed
by the passenger or next of kin or escort and the attending Physician.
If
you cancel such a ticket one hour or less before the departure, refund will not
be made. Otherwise the ticket can be canceled, changed and refunded.
